MINOR LEAGUERS WHO COULD MAKE IMPACT – MEIBRYS VILORIA

Meibrys Viloria wasn’t on this list originally, but after the injury to Salvador Perez that will likely see him miss the entire 2019 season, a catcher needed to be included on here.

The Royals have Cam Gallagher locked and loaded as their backup catcher, but he hasn’t had a ton of major league experience. While he’ll be considered the starter in 2019, the Royals would be smart to let a prospect also get some starts rather than acquire someone in free agency.

Viloria appeared in ten games for the Royals last year and batted .259 in 29 plate appearances. He’s only 22 years old, so he definitely needs more fine tuning, but it’d be a better move to go with a prospect at backup catcher than with an older free agent.

Viloria is batting .333 through seven plate appearances in Spring Training. Hopefully he can hit well over the next three and a half weeks and earn a spot on the big league roster at the ripe old age of 22.
