The Kansas City Chiefs are in the midst of rebuilding their defense and while most agree that the secondary is the top priority, the middle linebacker position should not be overlooked.

With the hiring of new defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, the Kansas City Chiefs are making a change in defensive philosophy. Switching from the 3-4 scheme to a hybrid 4-3, it’s important that the Chiefs get strong at the middle linebacker position again.

As I detailed in an article posted a few weeks ago, the strengths of a good 4-3 scheme is predicated on linebackers who can move in space. No offense to Reggie Ragland, but he isn’t exactly a prototypical inside linebacker to fit what the Chiefs need.

Anthony Hitchens came from the 4-3 in Dallas where he excelled, as opposed to last season where he was playing out of position for Bob Sutton. Hitchens is still a solid player and will (hopefully) shine in Spagnuolo’s scheme playing more outside and in space.

With all of this said, the Chiefs need to find their new leader at inside linebacker and there are plenty to be had in this year’s draft class. So without further ado, let’s take a look at some linebackers that could fill that void.
