TIGHT END DRAFT PROSPECTS – DAWSON KNOX (OLE MISS)

Dawson Knox is somewhat of an unknown in college football circles, having played for a program enduring NCAA sanctions with a group of really good wide receivers and atrocious quarterback play. Knox is a great athlete with great size, but perhaps few players in the 2019 NFL Draft are more of a boom or bust prospect than the Rebels tight end.

Limited route running experience at Ole Miss limited Knox to only a few specific routes. He’s willing and able to block both in the passing game and running game, but neither aspect of blocking is a strength. Great size and an ability to explode up the field, Knox’s tools indicate the potential for a really impactful player if a team is patient enough.

The concerns of his overall talent stem from the raw traits from numerous aspects of his game. He can and is willing to block, but needs refinement. He can catch and has good hands, but his technique needs refinement as well. On film at Ole Miss and knowing what would await him in Kansas City, the difference in quarterback play can not be overstated.

If the Chiefs decide to wait until the end of round two to address the position, Knox would make a lot of sense. Likely a year away before he’s able to truly be a significant, three-down contributor, the Chiefs are an organization that would be in a place to allow him a year of coaching, development and refinement.
