The Kansas City Chiefs need to add a backup tight end behind Travis Kelce. Who are some options for the Chiefs to sign this spring at tight end?

The Kansas City Chiefs are fortunate to have one of the best tight ends in the sport in Travis Kelce, but he’s the only viable option on the roster right now. Demetrius Harris hopefully won’t be brought back and the only other tight ends on the roster were both rookies this past season, with neither catching a pass.

While it’s possible that the Chiefs add a tight end in the draft, who are some decent options on the free agent market that the team could sign? Obviously going after a big name like Jared Cook isn’t going to be on the agenda due to already having Kelce, but there are plenty of viable backup options out there.

Let’s take a look at some, shall we?

TIGHT END OPTIONS IN FREE AGENCY

NUMBER 6 – RICHARD RODGERS

The Rodgers to Rodgers connection never got to what many expected it to be in Green Bay, as Richard Rodgers wasn’t re-signed by the Packers after his rookie deal expired. He spent the past season in Philadelphia, but caught just one pass for seven yards.

Now, Rodgers will await to be signed this offseason and while he’s shown he isn’t a viable starting option at tight end, having the former California Golden Bear as a backup option is a good plan.

Rodgers’ best season came in 2015 when he hauled in 58 receptions for  510 yards and eight touchdowns. He started 12 games that year and appeared in all 16 regular season matches.

A change of scenery could do wonders for Richard Rodgers and not having that added pressure of being THE guy could also help him develop. He’s someone the Chiefs should look at this spring.
