Washington Redskins

Pick: 15

Current Quarterback: Unknown

On November 18th, Redskins starting quarterback Alex Smith suffered a gruesome leg injury that knocked him out for the rest of the season. Further complications after surgery could also keep him out all of 2019.

At the time of the injury, the Redskins were 6-3. They’d lose that Sunday to Texans before going 1-5 down the stretch, finishing 7-9.

After Smith’s injury, head coach Jay Gruden turned to Colt McCoy (who got injured), Mark Sanchez (who isn’t good), and Josh Johnson (who also isn’t good, but he isn’t Mark Sanchez, either).

Washington is the first team on this list that could actually succeed in 2019 with a rookie signal-caller lining up under center. Gruden is probably in the same boat as Pat Shurmur and Doug Marrone, but unlike the Giants and Jaguars, the Redskins really don’t have a veteran alternative to turn to.

The Redskins could be that one team in 2019 that a rookie quarterback from the very beginning. If they deem that the case, team president Bruce Allen may try to trade up for Haskins or Murray. But if that fails, or if that price is way too steep, a small jump for Lock seems entirely possible.
