Mizzou Football: Ten NFL landing spots for Drew Lock
By Cullen Jekel
Los Angeles Chargers
Pick: 28
Current Quarterback: Philip Rivers
Fifteen-year veteran Philip Rivers enjoyed quite the season in 2018, throwing for 4,308 yards and 32 touchdowns versus only 12 interceptions. His 2018 completion percentage (68.3%) was his highest since 2013.
More importantly, the Chargers went 12-4 and clinched a playoff spot before defeating the Ravens in the Wild Card round. Things ended, though, with a 41-28 thumping against the Patriots, a game that wasn’t as close as the score indicates.
Rivers will turn 38 in December. How much does he have left in the tank? He’s been incredibly durable during his career, having started every single game for the Chargers since taking over for Drew Brees to begin the 2006 season.
Still, with the Chiefs locked in for years to come with Patrick Mahomes and the Raiders accumulating draft picks and cap space to load up for the future, the Chargers are in a prime spot to draft Rivers’ successor while still contending in 2019.
And with the squad not picking until 28, Haskins and Murray will be long gone. Will Lock? It’s less clear.
In all likelihood, another team will scoop up Lock before the final fourth of the first round, but there’s always a chance that another Aaron Rodgers scenario occurs. If that did happen, the Chargers should pounce.
