Free agency will be upon us very soon and Marc Sessler of NFL.com thinks that the Kansas City Chiefs should sign cornerback Kareem Jackson.

This wouldn’t be a crazy move for the Kansas City Chiefs, as they have a need at cornerback and Kareem Jackson still has enough gas in the tank. Yes, he’s 31 years old, but as Sessler points out, he’s reliable against the pass. That’s not something the Chiefs secondary as a whole could say last season.

Sessler writes,

"Bags of money will go toward retaining Dee Ford, but the defensive to-do list runs deeper, as the Chiefsshift to a 4-3 scheme under Steve Spagnuolo. Kansas City could use help at every position, but free agency is a good spot to find cover-man help in the form of Jackson, a reliable defender against the pass and a top-tier talent against the run for Houston in 2018. He turns 31 in April, but has plenty left for a win-now team like the Chiefs."

Jackson has spent all nine years of his NFL career with the Houston Texans, but is hitting free agency this offseason. As I mentioned above, he’s 31 years old, but that will help the Chiefs because that means he’ll be on the cheaper side.

Jackson started all 16 games for the Texans in 2018 and totaled 87 tackles, 17 defended passes, and two interceptions. The Texans defense was much better than Kansas City’s, but Jackson would be a decent fit for the Chiefs.

As Sessler mentioned, the Chiefs appear to want to keep Dee Ford in Kansas City, so that’s going to tie up a lot of money. They’ll also want to strongly consider extending both Tyreek Hill and Chris Jones, as these two have been tremendous players in their now three years at the helm.

That won’t leave KC with a ton of spending money, but Jackson could definitely be a cheaper option. Cornerback looks bleak for the Chiefs right now with Kendall Fuller being the only sure thing starter in 2019.

Charvarius Ward had his moments, but depending on him to be the starting corner opposite Fuller is a bit much. Steven Nelson was a decent player, but it’s not looking like he’ll be retained.

Jackson is a corner who could come in and start for the Chiefs and hopefully give them some type of production in the secondary. That’s something they didn’t have much of last season and it’ll be crucial for the Kansas City Chiefs to upgrade their pass defense if they want to make it to the Super Bowl this year.

What would you think of Kareem Jackson coming to Kansas City?
