KC Chiefs: Potential running back prospects in 2019 NFL Draft
By John McCarty
RYQUELL ARMSTEAD, TEMPLE
Looking for names in the mid to late rounds that could emerge, Ozigbo and Temple product Ryquell Armstead should peak your interest. While the Nebraska product Ozigbo is a power back with some burst, Armstead is able to blend a few traits into an intriguing running back prospect.
Armstead is an interesting blend of size (5-11/223 pounds at the Senior Bowl) with some burst and good feet. A one cut type runner, Armstead uses size to get available yardage and quickness to hit the hole. Good effort and quickness allow aid an offense.
Rarely targeted in the passing game at Temple, he only netted 29 career receptions, most of his catches coming as check downs out of the backfield. His blocking also leaves something to be desired, as he gets in the way more than he actually blocks. However, perhaps where there is a will coaches can teach the way.
Ryquell Armstead could be an interesting name for Chiefs fans to keep an eye on the third day. A bit of a better athlete than Ozigbo but not quite as powerful, he could be an interesting backup, developmental player for the Chiefs in the next couple years.
