The Kansas City Chiefs are coming off of one of the most incredible seasons in team history. Coming up just shy of a trip to the Super Bowl, a few offseason tweaks could really put the Chiefs over the top in 2019.

With the NFL offseason in full swing, here are some bold offseason moves that could make the Kansas City Chiefs the talk of spring.

A Surprise Trade

Outside linebacker Dee Ford had a career year in 2018. For the first time in five seasons, Ford played all 16 regular season games and tallied 13 sacks. In the previous four seasons, Ford didn’t play a full season due to injury and totaled only 17.5 sacks altogether.

2018 seems to be the season that Ford finally lived up to his 2014 first round draft pick status. On a bad Chiefs defense, Ford really became a bright spot this last season. But could that have just been a flash in the pan?

Chiefs General Manager Brett Veach has already said that the team is looking forward to having Ford, who becomes a free agent in March, back in 2019. Chiefs Kingdom seems to share those sentiments about the talented edge rusher, but should be wary of signing an injury prone player to a big contract. Recent examples like Justin Houston and Eric Berry should cause the Chiefs to be a little gun shine in offering Ford big money.

If Veach is truly looking forward to having Ford back, the two likely options would be signing him to a long-term contract or placing the franchise tag on him. There is also another option that the Chiefs could use in building a better defense for 2019 – trading him. This may seem like a crazy idea but think about the possibility for a moment.
