NUMBER 10 – WEEK 9 AT CLEVELAND BROWNS
Heading into a road game against the Cleveland Browns, many were flashing back to when Patrick Mahomes and Baker Mayfield squared off against each other in college. Mahomes was a junior at Texas Tech and Mayfield, who was a junior at Oklahoma in that game.
The two went on to combine for nearly 1,300 passing yards and 12 touchdowns in an eventual 66-59 Oklahoma victory. This game has gone down as one of the most insane offensive performances in college football history.
The Chiefs and Browns game wasn’t quite as explosive, but hopefully Mahomes and Mayfield will become the new Brady and Manning rivalry. Both are young quarterbacks who are the future of their franchises.
In this game against Cleveland, Mahomes went 23 of 32 for 375 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception in a 37-21 Chiefs victory. While those were good stats, the pick thrown by Mahomes was brutal. Fortunately the Chiefs defense limited Mayfield significantly in the second half, so it ended up not being a huge deal.
Similar to the Cardinals game, this just wasn’t a “memorable” performance, which is saying something considering how good Mahomes’ numbers were. What a talent.
