Kansas basketball escaped Fort Worth with an overtime win on Monday night, narrowly defeating TCU by a score of 82-77. Is this the turning point for the Jayhawks?

It hasn’t been the type of season that Kansas basketball fans are accustomed to, but their win over the TCU Horned Frogs on Monday night very well could be what kicks this team’s butt into high gear.

Playing away from Allen Fieldhouse has been tough for this season’s team, as prior to their win at TCU, they had gone 1-6 on the road. Now they’re 2-6, so that’s not exactly anything to write home about either. The difference between the Jayhawks on the road and at home is huge and playing on the road has been a major challenge this season.

TCU stayed in this game the entire time, obviously, as it ended up going to overtime and the Horned Frogs had plenty of opportunities to win the game in regulation. KU held on though, despite three of their starters fouling out and the bench having to come in and help close things out for the Jayhawks.

This win is HUGE for Kansas because it means they’re not dead yet in the Big 12 title race. That’s right. The Jayhawks can still keep the streak alive, but they have to be damn near flawless down the stretch.

They have to continue making Allen Fieldhouse an impossible place to win at for opponents and start playing well on the road as well. The second could be difficult, but it’s manageable, even with the limited depth.

The two biggest tests for Kansas in the final few weeks of the season are against Texas Tech and against their in-state rivals Kansas State.

The Texas Tech game comes on the road this Saturday in Lubbock. Kansas handled the Red Raiders with ease a few weeks ago, but that game was in Lawrence. Texas Tech will be eagerly awaiting their chance to seek revenge and they know as well as anyone that this could be their chance to win the Big 12.

Kansas State currently leads the Big 12, but they’ve struggled big time at Allen Fieldhouse over the years. Yes, the Wildcats handled KU last week, but the rematch is in Lawrence and that bodes well for the Jayhawks. K-State has a few tough games themselves, so KU definitely has a chance to jump them in the standings, assuming they’re perfect for the rest of the regular season.

Is this win over TCU the turning point? We don’t know yet, but after pulling out a tight game with three of their starters on the bench, it sure looks like Kansas isn’t ready to roll over just yet.
