POSITIONS OF NEED IN 2019 NFL DRAFT – RUNNING BACK

Despite the contract extension of Damien Williams, the running back position for the Chiefs still has a lot of questions. Williams himself is not a feature type back, and the only other running back under contract is undrafted free agent Darryl Williams.

With Spencer Ware and Anthony Sherman unlikely to return next season, an inexpensive running back in the draft is the way to go.

Perhaps the issue is the draft is not a great spot to find a running back that truly fits what the Chiefs are looking for. No player fits what the Chiefs would look for better than Josh Jacobs out of Alabama, but I doubt he’s available in the first round when KC is on the clock. Even if he is, would the Chiefs take a running back in round one?

Damien Harris, Jacobs’ teammate at Alabama would make sense, as would Darrell Henderson of Memphis in the second round. Would either of these players fall to the Chiefs in round two?  Miles Sanders of Penn State is a name in round three that would make sense as well in the third round.
