POSITIONS OF NEED IN 2019 NFL DRAFT – CORNERBACK

Perhaps no position group of the Chiefs was more harangued and discussed than the cornerbacks this past season.

Orlando Scandrick never found a holding penalty he didn’t like and Steven Nelson, despite having a really good season, never found a pass route he turned his head around for. Kendall Fuller performed better than he perhaps he’s given credit for, but still struggled this season. Charvarius Ward is being discussed as a lockdown corner despite only playing in a handful of games.

Help is needed.

The Chiefs will need to add a corner that can, at the very least, contribute early on. Fuller and Ward provide enough front line depth and Tremon Smith appears to be much more depth/special teams than a potential impact contributor on defense.

Unlikely to find a corner on the board in the first, and who is available in the second? Third? Amani Oruwariye of Penn State, Blace Brown of Troy, Jimmy Moreland of James Madison and Rock Ya-Sin of Temple are names to keep an eye on.

Don’t be surprised if the Chiefs add multiple corners during the draft, one early and one near the end as a developmental/depth player.
