KC Chiefs: Potential Defensive Tackle Prospects in 2019 NFL Draft
By John McCarty
DEFENSIVE TACKLE PROSPECTS – ROUND THREE
DANIEL WISE – KANSAS
A similar player, to a degree with Willis, Daniel Wise is a 4-3 defensive tackle capable of shooting gaps and can play inside against both the run and the passing game. The lone highlight perhaps for a bad Kanas Jayhawks football program, Wise certainly has the opportunity to make plays and make a living in the NFL along the interior of the line.
Perhaps a great way to describe Wise would be to look at Gerald Willis and take a bit off to get to Wise. Not overly powerful in the lower body, he struggles to overpower and hold ground against offensive linemen.
Wise has some quickness, along with strength, but is not great at anything. His greatest attribute is his hustle and ability to shoot the gap. Wise never gives up on a play when run away from him and combined with his strength and quickness, can get in the backfield.
Again, the Chiefs likely add a defensive lineman at some point in the draft, and perhaps both and end and tackle as they look to remake a defense that cratered the past two seasons despite a bunch of money being thrown at the position.
Look for KC to turn to the draft as opposed to free agency to address defensive depth. Daniel Wise would be an interesting name for the Chiefs to look at.
