ROUND 6 – PICK 28 (203RD OVERALL)

This time last year, no one would have been clamoring for the Chiefs to draft a running back. They appeared to be set up well at the position for years to come.

Well, obviously a lot has changed regarding the running back position in the past year. Now the Chiefs need to add a few running backs and one will probably be added to the team via the draft.

So, with their first selection in the sixth round, the Chiefs select North Dakota State running back Bruce Anderson. The Bison back finished his senior season just shy of 1,000 yards rushing (924) and had nine touchdowns. He also hauled in 199 yards receiving with three scores.

The Chiefs don’t need a starting option right now, as Damien Williams has that role covered, but Anderson would be a nice backup option or third stringer behind Darryl Williams. With how often injuries occur in the league, the Chiefs can’t be stingy with their running back corps.

Anderson comes from a school that was very focused on running the ball, so he knows how to help carry his team. He had four games this past season in which he rushed for over 100 yards and had three games where he had multiple scores.

This would be a nice late draft depth selection for Kansas City and we’ve seen that you don’t need to draft a running back early to have him pan out. Spending one a pick on one in the sixth round would be just fine with Chiefs fans.
