ROUND 5 – PICK 29 (168TH OVERALL)

Back to defense, as the Chiefs grab their fourth defensive player in five picks. This time it’s edge rusher Jonathan Ledbetter out of Georgia.

The Chiefs might have an entirely new pass rush next season, meaning that even with a potential switch to a 4-3 scheme, they’ll need edge rushers. That’s where Ledbetter comes into play.

The Georgia Bulldog compiled 56 tackles last year and despite one sack, did have six and a half tackles for loss. He’s a physical player and that makes him appealing to just about anyone. His profile on The Draft Network states,

"Nasty swim move to work over top of blockers as a pass rusher. Has powerful hands and has flashed the ability to create movement as a bull rusher. Varies his pace and can lull blockers to sleep before snapping into a plan of attack."

The Chiefs more than likely will keep either Dee Ford or Justin Houston, but even if one is let go, they need someone else as an edge rusher as well. Jonathan Ledbetter could be that guy moving forward.
