ROUND 1 – PICK 29 (29TH OVERALL)

The Chiefs need help just about everywhere on defense, so really any defensive position they address in the first round would be fine with Chiefs fans.

In this mock draft, they go with Dre’Mont Jones of Ohio State. Last year, the Buckeyes defensive lineman totaled 43 tackles (13 for loss), eight and a half sacks, and an interception. He also forced a fumble and recovered three while defending two passes.

Going into his junior season at Ohio State (which was his last, as he’s entering the draft a year early), a lot of the analysts were knocking Jones for being undersized for his position. Walter Football in particular noted this issue writing that he needed to add weight, otherwise he would not be an every down option for whatever NFL team drafted him.

In that draft profile, Jones was listed as 6’3″ and 272 pounds. His current weight listed on Sports Reference is 286 pounds, meaning he did indeed put muscle on.

The Chiefs need help with stopping the run and if Jones were to be paired with Chris Jones, that Chiefs d-line just got much deadlier. We could also give them cool nicknames like “the Jones-es Brothers” or “Mr. Jones and Me”. How fun.
