The Kansas City Chiefs have some tough decisions to make this offseason regarding who to cut. Here are some players that might not be with the Chiefs come training camp.

With a trip to the AFC Championship Game this past season, Kansas City Chiefs fans are expecting even more success in the 2019 season. Unfortunately, some current Chiefs won’t be a part of that success for whatever reason, but cutting them could help the organization acquire other players who can contribute at a high level next season.

So, who are five Chiefs that should be cut prior to the start of 2019? Let’s take a look.

CHIEFS WHO SHOULD BE CUT – JUSTIN HOUSTON*

I’m putting an asterisk by this one because the Chiefs should only cut Justin Houston if he’s not willing to restructure his current contract. As of now, Houston would earn $15 million in the 2019 season and $17 million in 2020, according to Spotrac.

Should the Chiefs cut him, they’d have $7 million in dead money, which isn’t ideal. Houston more than deserved the contract he got after that electric 2014 season, but injuries have derailed his career since then.

He did have nine sacks in 2018, the best he’s looked since signing the deal, but at this point with a new defensive coordinator, does Houston still fit in the Chiefs’ scheme? It’d be difficult to move on from both Justin Houston and Dee Ford, but KC might have to.

I only think the Chiefs should part ways with Houston if he’s unwilling to renegotiate his deal. Otherwise, keep him around because we’ve seen that when he’s healthy, he’s a tremendous talent at the pass rushing spot.
