The NFL season has concluded and now we have to wait seven months for the 2019 season to kick off. It wouldn’t be shocking if the Kansas City Chiefs played their season opener in Foxboro.

Well, once again the Patriots won the Super Bowl, which means they’ll get to host the NFL season opener in early September. Fans shouldn’t be surprised whatsoever if the Kansas City Chiefs are the visiting team for that season opener.

There are a few other options that the league could ultimately go with, such as the Pittsburgh Steelers, Dallas Cowboys, or New York Giants. The Steelers and Patriots have played two tight games the last two years, so that’s definitely an option, though if Antonio Brown isn’t back in Pittsburgh, that might make that match-up less interesting.

Dallas is “America’s Team” (barf) so of course they’ll be in the conversation. The NFL assumes everyone wants to watch the Cowboys every week, when that’s far from the truth. The Giants beat New England in the Super Bowl twice over the years so that could definitely be an option too though probably not a great one since the Giants have been garbage recently.

More than likely, the Chiefs will be the ones to open the season in Foxboro. They had this honor in the 2017 season opener and ended up blowing the doors off the Patriots in stunning fashion, which was a ton of fun for Chiefs Kingdom and a great way to start the season.

The Chiefs and Patriots played in the AFC Championship Game this past season, which is reason enough why they’ll probably square off in the opener. Patrick Mahomes is another reason after winning the MVP last season and leading the Chiefs to a 12-4 record. Mahomes was a superstar in his first full year as a starter and even non-Chiefs fans would tune in just to watch him play.

Mahomes went 0-2 against the Patriots in 2018, but you know what they say… Third time’s a charm. The Chiefs went into Foxboro to kickoff the 2017 season and left with a double digit victory. It’s not crazy to think that they could do it again next season, should that end up being the match-up.

Seven months is a long time to wait to watch the Kansas City Chiefs again, but there’s a good chance we’ll be watching them in the first game of the regular season, so there’s reason to get excited already!
