While I know I’m being somewhat ridiculous there, there is no denying that the situation between the Chiefs and Eric Berry is beginning to sour.

It’s being reported now that Berry will likely require another surgery and if that’s the case, it puts the Chiefs in a tough spot as far as decisions go.

Assuming the Chiefs wanted to cut Eric Berry this season, they would likely would do it as a post June 1st cut, meaning they could save money against their cap this season and spread out the remaining money over the coming years in dead cap space.

The Chiefs would save $9.55 million this year if that were the case and it would only make sense if they were nearing deals with Chris Jones or Tyreek Hill headed into camp.

What’s going to screw the Chiefs is the fact that Berry is going to require that surgery, meaning he will fail his postseason physical and it will fully guarantee his contract for 2019. That means if they wanted to make him a post June 1st cut, they would now only save $2.33 million and it literally makes zero sense to cut him at all.

What has become so frustrating is that the Chiefs allowed Berry to dictate how his 2018 season was going to play out when he clearly needed to clean up the heel with surgery. The Chiefs were the number one seed in the AFC basically without him at all this season and he should’ve been placed on injured reserve and had the operation done.
