KC Chiefs: Notable accomplishments from the 2018 season
By Chris Clark
BREAKING THE CURSE
It had been 25 years since the Chiefs could claim that they had a home playoff victory.
In the 2015 playoffs, the Chiefs snapped a seven-game playoff losing streak by beating the Texans in Houston. That helped to get the 22-year playoff win drought off their backs, but the home losing streak needed to be broken as well.
In the last 25 years, the Chiefs have suffered heartbreaking home playoff losses by lack of field goals, by too many field goals, and just last season with a quarterback throwing a touchdown to himself. All of these losses just seem to represent Kansas City’s playoff misfortune in recent history. Victories in all of these games were within reach, but just simply didn’t happen.
When the Colts came to Arrowhead Stadium in the second week of 2019, more than a few fans had reason to be haunted by the ghosts of home playoff past. Although it was on the road, the Chiefs watched a 38-10 lead disintegrate to Andrew Luck and the Indianapolis Colts in the 2013 playoffs. Thankfully, inviting the star quarterback and his team into Arrowhead ended differently than it did five years ago.
The Colts looked hot finishing the season strong and coming off of a Wild Card win against the Texans. They were no match for the Chiefs, though, as Kansas City controlled the game from start to finish.
This may just be one victory, but it may also be the biggest victory in Kansas City in the last quarter century.
