KC Chiefs: 2019 Senior Bowl prospects who could interest Chiefs in draft
By John McCarty
Tyre Brady, WR, Marshall:
Tyre Brady originally signed with the Miami football program out of high school, and would transfer to Marshall after the 2015 season after running into some disciplinary issues. The tall (6’2″) receiver during his two years playing for the Thundering Herd would catch a total of 133 balls for 1,944 yards and 17 touchdowns.
His junior season, he was catching passes from Chiefs third string quarterback Chase Litton. That doesn’t mean much other than that it’s just a fun fact.
Brady is a smooth athlete that at Marshall was able to do a lot of things well, but doesn’t excel at anything specifically. Good size with some quickness, good hands and an ability to make plays at multiple levels of the defense, Brady provides a ceiling worth investing in the middle rounds of the draft.
He has lined up both outside and in the slot and could have probably put up better numbers as a senior had his quarterback not gone early into the draft as a junior.
Brady, however, must improve his body strength and strengthen his hands. Routes, especially as a senior, were deep routes and moves off the ‘go’ route. Not overly physical mindset shows itself when he attempts to block, which is more trying to interfere then to actually block. Work is left to be done.
The Chiefs are going to draft a wide receiver and are likely to do so early. Chris Conley and De’Anthony Thomas are free agents and Sammy Watkins is a potential cap cut after the 2019 season.
