MOST SURPRISING CHIEFS IN 2018 – NUMBER 3: CHRIS JONES

After recording 8.5 sacks in his first two seasons combined, Chris Jones broke out this season with 15.5 sacks this year—good for third in the NFL. The third year defensive end should certainly have been a Pro Bowler with all of those sacks, as well as his 19 tackles for loss, which is good for fifth in the league.

The November AFC Defensive Player of the Month also set an NFL all-time record for most consecutive games with a sack. ESPN reported how Jones dropping 25 pounds in the offseason allowed for him to be more of a defensive presence in games, playing a career high 65% of snaps.

SBNation wrote an excellent piece on Jones’ play this season, describing the value that he’s brought to the defense:

"“Jones’ ability to collapse pockets and shuffle blockers across the trenches has been the balm that’s soothed Kansas City’s aching linebacking corps and secondary this fall.”"

Chris Jones should be a candidate to get an extension this offseason and for good reason. He was a pleasant surprise in 2018 and the Chiefs should definitely sign him to an extension.
