STARTING ROTATION CANDIDATES – GLENN SPARKMAN

Glenn Sparkman probably won’t make the rotation initially, but I’m sure he’ll get a few chances to start this year. He started three games for the Royals last year and in total threw in 38.1 innings with a 4.46 ERA during his 15 appearances.

It wasn’t a great campaign by Sparkman, but hopefully it was a learning experience for the 26 year old. He lost all three of his starts and failed to go more than four innings in every outing. His best start came against the Rays in late August, where he went four innings and gave up three runs. His offense didn’t help him much though, in his defense.

Sparkman had a few decent appearances as a reliever, so that’s likely the route the Royals go with, at least to start the year. Injuries always occur, however, so Sparkman will probably see at least another three starts in 2019.

Hopefully they go better for him this time around.
