ROUND 5 – PICK 29 (168TH OVERALL)

With no fourth round picks, the Chiefs have to wait until the 168th pick to make their next selection. They add Mark McLaurin, a safety out of Mississippi State.

The Chiefs used their first round pick on a safety, but as I mentioned on that slide, safety is a position that desperately needs some help. McLaurin played at Mississippi State for four years, racking up 224 tackles (ten for loss), 18 defended passes, eight interceptions, and he recovered three fumbles.

McLaurin’s best season came as a junior in 2017, where he had 79 total tackles and six interceptions. Fifth round picks aren’t necessarily game changers, but the Chiefs need depth at safety and that’s what this selection would be.

The Chiefs need to add as much help on defense as possible this offseason and Mark McLaurin could be a sneaky good pick in the draft.
