ROUND 3 – PICK 28 (92ND OVERALL)

With their fourth pick of the 2019 NFL Mock Draft, the Kansas City Chiefs add another secondary player from Alabama. Saivion Smith only spent a year in Tuscaloosa with the Crimson Tide, spending his first two years of eligibility at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.

Smith had a good enough junior campaign at Alabama that he’s opting to forego his final year of eligibility to enter the NFL Draft. He ended the 2018 season with 60 tackles, five defended passes, and three interceptions (one of which he took back the other way for six points).

Smith likely was still available this late in the draft due to the injury he sustained in the National Championship Game. The Crimson Tide corner was carted off the field in the third quarter after what looked to be a leg injury.

The Chiefs need cornerback talent if they want to be a Super Bowl contender and Saivion Smith could help make that possible. The injury might turn some teams off, but I still think Smith could be a difference maker in this secondary. He showed promise in his one year at Alabama and the Chiefs need that kind of talent.
