ROUND 2 – PICK 29 (61ST OVERALL)

When it comes to needs in the 2019 NFL Draft, the Kansas City Chiefs have to hit the defense hard. Not only that, but they need to add players who can help them stop the run, something the Chiefs defense has struggled to do pretty much the entire time since Andy Reid has been in Kansas City.

With their second round pick, the Chiefs go with Tre Lamar out of Clemson. Lamar is an inside linebacker, who is a tremendous athlete. It’s not easy playing inside linebacker, as the position requires both an ability to stop the run and be able to contribute in preventing big passing plays.

Lamar had a nice three-year career at Clemson and as a result, is forgoing his senior season and entering the draft this year. He finished his three years with 146 tackles (13.5 for loss), eight sacks, and an interception.

Lamar had 79 tackles in 2018, with five and a half of those being for loss. The Chiefs need that kind of production from their run defense and Lamar is very much a guy who could come in and contribute right away.

Anthony Hitchens and Xavier Williams were disappointing in their first year as Chiefs, so that can’t be the solution moving forward. Tre Lamar would be the perfect addition to the run defense.
