Kansas City Chiefs: Rookie grades for 2018 draft class
By Chris Clark
In selecting Derrick Nnadi, the Chiefs were looking to bolster their defensive line. They seem to have done that in the third round with the 75th overall pick. The 6’1″, 317 pound defensive tackle didn’t make a huge splash, but did start 13 of the 18 games on the season.
Coming out of Florida State, the big-bodied defender seems to have made a nice transition to the NFL, as expected.
After a solid rookie season, Chiefs Kingdom should expect to see Nnadi make a bigger impression in the years to come. With a rookie season similar to Dontari Poe, hopefully, the Chiefs can turn Nnadi into a similar player.
Similar to Breeland Speaks, Dorian O’Daniel was somewhat of a mystery pick. His aggressiveness and ability to make plays on the field is definitely a quality that the Chiefs need. His fitment on the field, however, left little to be desired.
Not quite fast enough to be a safety or big enough to be a linebacker, this leaves O’Daniel to be more of a package player.
Depending on the scheme, Kansas City’s next defensive coordinator may struggle to find a place to use him. Fortunately for O’Daniel, his 34 combined tackles on the season earns him a decent grade.
