COLDEST GAMES IN CHIEFS HISTORY – NUMBER 4

DECEMBER 10, 1972 VS COLTS (7.5°)

In 1972, the Colts were in Baltimore not in Indianapolis. They had the misfortune of traveling to Kansas City for a late season game against the Chiefs in which the temperatures were right around the seven degree mark. Windchills made it feel like it was well below zero that day.

Len Dawson was effective as always, throwing for two touchdowns while Wendell Hayes rushed for 104 yards and hauled in a touchdown. Ed Podolak rushed for 58 yards and a score, adding to the damage the Chiefs were able to do that day.

The Colts managed just ten points and the Chiefs rolled to a 24-10 victory in one of the coldest games ever to be played in Kansas City. The temperatures made it difficult for either team to do much of anything, but the Chiefs kept running the ball down Baltimore’s throat.

This late season game in 1972 sits as the fourth coldest game in Kansas City Chiefs history.
