Kansas City Chiefs: Coldest games in Chiefs history
COLDEST GAMES IN CHIEFS HISTORY – NUMBER 5
DECEMBER 17, 2000 VS BRONCOS (9°)
Another nine degree game came 37 years after that Patriots beatdown, but a lot happened in those 37 years. The most important was that the Chiefs won a Super Bowl. Oh, and the AFL merged with the NFL. That seems kind of noteworthy.
Near the end of the 2000 season, the Chiefs hosted the Denver Broncos, who were 11-4 coming into the game and definitely the better team that year. The Broncos arrived to a very cold Arrowhead where temperatures were around the nine degree mark with a windchill at negative one.
The Chiefs won the game 20-7 behind Tony Richardson‘s insane day. Richardson rushed for 156 yards and a touchdown and led the team to victory that day along with Frank Moreau‘s 59 rushing yards and score. Todd Peterson also kicked two field goals.
The only points the Broncos mustered up that day was a recovered fumble in the end zone. Otherwise, the Chiefs defense shut that Denver offense down.
A cold day in Kansas City somehow still warmed the hearts of Chiefs fans, as they watched their team beat up one of their most hated rivals in the 2000 regular season.
