COLDEST GAMES IN CHIEFS HISTORY – NUMBER 7

DECEMBER 20, 1981 AT VIKINGS (9.5°)

This is the only entry on the list to take place outside of Kansas City, but it was still a chilly day for the Chiefs! In the 1981 season, the Chiefs traveled to Minnesota for a date with the Vikings and it was nine degrees at kickoff with a windchill of minus eight.

This was the regular season finale and the Chiefs sat at 8-7 coming into the game while the Vikings were 7-8. There wasn’t much scoring in this game with the final score being 10-6 in the Chiefs’ favor.

Steve Fuller, KC’s quarterback at the time, completed 12 passes off 16 attempts for 145 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. His counterpart, Tommy Kramer, attempted 38 passes, completing just 17 of them for 177 yards and an interception. Chiefs running back Billy Jackson was the star of the game, rushing for 102 yards on 25 carries.

This is the only game on the list to take place on the road and, to this point, was the only cold game the Chiefs came out victorious in. Will that change with other games? Read on to find out.
