KC Chiefs: Key Match-Ups vs Patriots in AFC Championship Game
By Kole Berrey
Players vs the Elements
Okay, this match up may not be between the Chiefs and Patriots players or coaches, but it is still one of the more important match-ups to watch. Temperature forecasts vary from source to source but the consensus is the same across the board; friggin’ cold. The game is expected to kickoff in temperatures in the single digits, with real feel in the negatives.
What does that mean for the players? Well honestly, not much.
Both teams are outdoor, cold weather units who practice and play in these elements routinely. Every player is a professional who gets paid to be ready for this type of thing. With no snow, rain, or heavy winds in the forecast, expect the game to be relatively unaffected by the conditions.
The only thing to really worry about is receivers catching short passes in traffic. The ball will be hard and fingers will be numb, so a few more drops may occur, especially from the rocket arm of Mahomes. The kicking game may slightly be altered as well, but by and large, the weather shouldn’t hinder or help either team too much.
One thing to watch will be fan attendance. I myself don’t expect it to be an issue. I have been to many games in harsh conditions, including the most recent playoff game against Indianapolis after a near blizzard hit the city.
Arrowhead was still full, loud, and rocking. The same will be true this Sunday as well. The weather may not be optimal, but it won’t affect things as much as rain, snow, or wind would.
