KHALIL MACK

Basically anything I said for why Aaron Donald won’t win MVP can be repeated for Khalil Mack. Mack, who was traded to Chicago in the 2018 offseason, was a big time difference maker for the Bears and helped make that defense what it was this year.

Mack was fantastic in the Windy City, notching 14.5 sacks and really striking fear in opposing offenses. The biggest case to make for why Mack deserves Most Valuable Player is that in two games where he was banged up, the Bears defense looked human. Chicago also lost those two games.

As soon as Mack came back mostly healthy, the Bears went on a tear, winning eight of their final nine games. The Bears offense can be fun to watch at times, but they’re the third seed in the NFC playoffs because of their defense.

Khalil Mack would normally be a shoe-in to win Defensive Player of the Year, but Aaron Donald will likely win it this year.

Sorry, Khalil. At least you’re not in Oakland anymore. That’s a big win right there.
