PHILIP RIVERS

While it appears that the MVP race is going to come down between Patrick Mahomes and Drew Brees, there are a few surprise candidates that could make cases to win it. Philip Rivers is one of those candidates.

Chiefs fans don’t like Rivers, but let’s give credit where credit’s due. He’s a good quarterback and has been given some pretty crummy teams throughout his career. This season, Rivers has a good team behind him and it’s shown to the tune of a 12-4 record and a near AFC West title and one seed in the AFC.

Rivers had a great 2018 regular season, throwing for 4,308 yards, 32 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. His ability to lead his offense in comeback wins is the strongest case the Bolts quarterback has at this point, as he orchestrated comebacks against the Steelers and the Chiefs, with both coming on the road.

After the Chargers beat the Chiefs, Rivers’ MVP case was at its highest point of the season. In his final three games, however, Rivers threw a total of six interceptions to just three touchdowns. Not exactly MVP numbers.

Philip Rivers had a chance to win MVP a few weeks ago, but after doubling his season interception number in the span of three weeks, I highly doubt he wins it.
