The KC Chiefs have themselves an MVP candidate in Patrick Mahomes. How do the other candidates stack up to Mahomes in the race for the NFL’s Most Valuable Player?

One of the hottest topics of conversation right now among Kansas City Chiefs fans is Patrick Mahomes being the MVP of the league in 2018. It’s easy for Chiefs fans to say that, considering he’s THEIR guy, but let it be known that other players are being considered for the award.

In this post, we’ll look at the other MVP candidates and why they have a shot at winning the prestigious award. We’ll start with Mahomes.

WHY PATRICK MAHOMES DESERVES MVP

Patrick Mahomes sure seems to be the frontrunner, or at least one of the frontrunners, and it’s for good reason. The former first round pick started all 16 games for the Chiefs while throwing for 5,097 yards, 50 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. He also rushed for 272 yards and added two scores with his legs.

Simply put – Patrick Mahomes was magnificent in year one at the helm for the Chiefs. He did all of this at the ripe age of 23 and if that’s any indication as to how the rest of his career will go, then Chiefs fans are going to be in for quite a ride over the next decade plus.

Without Mahomes, the Chiefs probably don’t go 12-4, win the AFC West, and notch home field advantage throughout the AFC playoffs. Any other team would be lucky to go .500 with the Chiefs defense this year, but Mahomes made it one of the best seasons in franchise history.
