KANSAS CITY CHIEFS (ONE SEED)

At last, the entry you’ve all been waiting for! THE KANSAS CITY CHIEFS HAVE THE NUMBER ONE SEED IN THE AFC PLAYOFFS. Let that sink in for a minute.

We all know the storyline surrounding the Chiefs for the next two weeks is going to be how they can’t win in the postseason and it’s hard to dispute that.

When CBS cut to the Ravens and Browns game on Sunday, Jim Nantz made a comment about how the AFC will go through Arrowhead and then noted the playoffs haven’t been kind to KC. Tony Romo then chimed in with, “Yeah, but those teams didn’t have Patrick Mahomes” and I completely agree.

The Chiefs offense can score on just about anyone and Mahomes is to thank for that. In his first full year as the starting signal caller, Mahomes threw for over 5,000 yards and 50 touchdowns and will likely win the Most Valuable Player for the 2018 season. He’d definitely deserve it.

Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce have been helpful on offense too, both going for over 1,300 receiving yards and double digit touchdowns. The run game had some hiccups near the end of the season due to off the field drama, but they rebounded nicely behind Damien Williams.

No one is going to worry about the offense’s production in postseason play. No, we’ll be nervously awaiting to see which defense decides to show up in the playoffs. We last saw the Chiefs defense limit the Raiders to just three points, force four turnovers, and notch three sacks, but that was against a four-win Raiders team.

Whenever the Chiefs defense has gone up against playoff caliber offenses, they’ve gotten torched. We’re now down to the six best teams in the AFC and you better believe those five other teams have playoff caliber offenses that will deal the Chiefs defense fits.

In order for the Kansas City Chiefs to play to their seed, they’ll have to win in a shootout and their defense will have to come up with a key stop or two. Otherwise, an early exit could happen once again.
