HOUSTON TEXANS (THREE SEED)

The three seed, and AFC South champions, is  the Houston Texans, who I don’t feel are getting much respect despite what they accomplished this year.

Let’s start with the fact that Deshaun Watson was sacked 60 times this year and rarely had protection whatsoever. Watson still managed to put up great numbers and if it weren’t for an insane MVP season from Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs fans would be asking why they didn’t draft him. Glad we don’t have that dilemma!

The Texans started the year at 0-3 and looked dead in the water early on. They battled back to win the AFC South and the three-seed in the AFC, which is another reason why we need to remember the season doesn’t end after three weeks.

Houston is a good team and have arguably the best receiver in football in DeAndre Hopkins, who can completely take games over. Whenever I make a case as to why Hopkins could be the best wideout in the game, I point to the years when Houston didn’t have a quarterback and how Hopkins did in those seasons. Spoiler alert: He was good, and still is good.

The Texans defense is a strong point too, led by J.J. Watt and former first overall pick Jadeveon Clowney. When that defense is clicking, it’s hard for offenses to do much against them, even in today’s pass-happy league.

The Chiefs can only face the Texans in the AFC Championship Game, since they’re the highest Wild Card seed, but if that match-up comes to fruition, DeAndre Hopkins would scare the living daylight out of me. This Chiefs defense would have no answer for him.

The Texans host the Colts this weekend though and that won’t be a cakewalk for the AFC South champs.
