For the first time in a long time, there is no clear cut favorite in the AFC as far as winning the Super Bowl goes. The Kansas City Chiefs hold the one seed though, which is definitely a good thing.

Normally there’s a team on each side of the playoff bracket that most think will get to the Super Bowl, but this year has been different in that aspect. Perhaps it’s because the New England Patriots actually look human this year, so much that the Kansas City Chiefs won home field advantage over them.

It’s always a good thing to have the top seed in the conference, but a strong case could be made for why the other five teams could make it to the Super Bowl. Let’s entertain that, shall we? We’ll start from the bottom of the seedings and work our way up.

INDIANAPOLIS COLTS (SIX SEED)

The Indianapolis Colts battled back from a 1-5 start to get to 10-6 and earn the final Wild Card spot in the AFC. No one predicted the Colts would get here, especially after that rough start, but here they are.

Indy reminds me of the 2015 Chiefs team, who also started 1-5 and then made it to the playoffs, only as a five seed. The Chiefs won ten straight to make the postseason that year, while the Colts lost a game (they got shut out by the Jaguars, of all teams).

Behind Andrew Luck, T.Y. Hilton, Eric Ebron, and a slew of different running backs, Indy’s offense can beat just about anyone when they’re on point. A lot of that is thanks to their offensive line, which was finally been addressed after years of letting Luck get killed and nearly ruining his career as a result.

Their defense has been surprisingly stout this year too and could get hot at the right time. That makes the Colts a good team moving forward and one that if the Chiefs saw in the Divisional Round, could deal them fits.

The Colts travel to Houston this weekend for the first game of Wild Card weekend. That game isn’t getting much buzz, but it’ll be a fun AFC South showdown in Houston and the Colts have a very good chance at playing upset and moving onto the Divisional Round.
