The latest Kansas State football signing class has a couple of intriguing quarterbacks in it. How will new head coach Chris Klieman approach the position? Which quarterback will lead the Wildcats going forward?

The Kansas State football team has officially added two new quarterbacks to the roster. After the past couple of seasons of cycling through several players at the position, it seems likely that there could be an intriguing quarterback battle in the future.

New Kansas State football head coach Chris Klieman didn’t have much time to prepare for the 2018 early signing period, but it looks like he was still able to piece together a decent group of signees. This class is far from one that’ll make headlines for the Wildcats, but Klieman found a way to get 13 recruits sign letters of intent to join the Kansas State football team, and that’s pretty important.

The most important part of this signing class might just be the quarterback position and how Chris Klieman is bringing in two dual threat signal callers. It looks like the Wildcats have someone who could be their quarterback of the future. However, Kansas State will have to decide who it wants to turn to between two very similar options.

First, there’s Chris Herron from Houston, Texas.

Herron is certainly someone that Kansas State fans should keep an eye on. The three-star recruit picked the Wildcats over offers from Nebraska, Baylor, Houston, Kansas, Indiana, and others. Herron is quick, athletic, and versatile.

During his high school career, Herron had 3773 passing yards, 30 passing touchdowns, 2306 rushing yards, 36 rushing touchdowns, and then 295 receiving yards, and five touchdown receptions, according to 247Sports.

Kansas State’s second quarterback to sign was Jaren Lewis.

Lewis was being recruited by Klieman’s staff at North Dakota State, but now the dual threat quarterback will wind up in Manhattan, Kansas alongside Klieman. Similar to Herron, Lewis is a three-star prospect weighing in at 6’2″ and 207 pounds who will be joining the Wildcats from Columbia, Missouri.

Given that K-State was the only FBS school to offer Jaren Lewis a scholarship and Chris Herron is also joining the team as part of this class, it’ll be interesting to see how this coaching staff navigates the quarterback position. There’s a very good chance that these two quarterbacks could compete for a chance at the starting position for the next few years.

Herron was sought after by bigger name schools than Lewis, but Kansas State’s head coach has been working to get Lewis to play for him for a while now. Chris Klieman got Lewis to commit to North Dakota State back in June and there’s a chance that this connection could pay off for Lewis in the future.

It’s hard to tell just who will become the starting quarterback between these two right at this moment. There’s admittedly even a chance that neither of these guys earn that starting spot. There’s a few other young quarterbacks still on K-State’s roster and they’ll all have a shot at it too.

Still, both Chris Herron and Jaren Lewis are arriving in Manhattan as part of Klieman’s first recruiting class. One of them is even a guy he’s been recruiting for a while. There’s a solid chance that one of these two quarterbacks eventually takes the reigns over for the Wildcats.
