What is the direction of this team?

Dayton Moore appears to be trying to serve all the masters (rebuilding, competing, spending and saving money). It’s fine when the general manager makes comments about wanting to win, except, well, this team was terrible last year and it’s hard to imagine they are going to make any significant jumps next season.

What should the Royals do with the money? Well, perhaps they could target a bullpen arm they could turn into ‘something’ at the deadline, a far away prospect that may turn into something.

If you enjoy doubling down on inconsequential things like speed when no other traits enhance that trait, you look at the Hamilton signing as something that excites you. Keep in mind the Cincinnati Reds, a team not much further ahead the rebuild process the Royals are, decided to allow the outfielder to leave. They chose not to pay him and let him walk.

If you want to know what the team that invested time and money in his development of his future, the Reds allowed him to go away. They believe they are better off without him.

The Kansas City Royals gave him a multi-million dollar contract and likely money in the future to not play for them. Hm.
