Kansas City Chiefs: Le’Veon Bell isn’t the answer at running back
By Kole Berrey
The Chiefs will need to address the position in the offseason, but they seem to be going with an old face to help fill the void in the interim.
The team just signed running back Charcandrick West to a deal. West famously stepped in and led the Chiefs in rushing yards in the 2015 season after Jamaal Charles went down. West paired with the man he now backs up in Spencer Ware to form a respectable duo, and has a knack for pass protection as well as catching the ball out of the backfield.
West knows the offence, and outside of football seems to have a good relationship with the team. His energy is infectious and his presence in the locker room will be a positive to help lift the dark cloud that hovers over it now.
Spencer Ware is also no slouch, as he was slated to start ahead of Kareem Hunt last season before suffering a season ending injury in the preseason. With Mahomes now running the show, and at an MVP level, Ware and West need to just be serviceable. Boxes will rarely be stacked against them, and no team will key on them with so many weapons spread out around the rest of the offense.
For now, Ware and West will do as contributors. The Chiefs may actually look to make a move in free agency, however. They will looking for a low risk, high reward type signing. I believe there is a perfect candidate to fit this mold for the Chiefs, and that is current Atlanta Falcon running back Tevin Coleman.
