MOST DISAPPOINTING CHIEFS THROUGH BYE WEEK

NUMBER 2: ANY RUN DEFENDER

This one might be unfair, but I’m grouping the entire run defense in this second spot. Anthony Hitchens and Xavier Williams are the two main names that have been underwhelming this season, but Reggie Ragland hasn’t looked like the player he was a season ago.

This was an area of emphasis for the Chiefs during the offseason and their run defense is still awful. The Chiefs are 20th in total rushing yards allowed and have allowed teams to remain in games due to their ability to just keep handing off and running it down KC’s throats.

While the Chiefs did a nice job at limiting Todd Gurley‘s production last week, I think that was more on the Rams not running the ball as much as they previously had due to the game being an old-fashioned shootout. Had Gurley been cut loose, that game could have gotten much, much uglier.

Hitchens and Williams were free agents brought in over the summer and neither has fit the contract they were given. The run defense has to get better or the Chiefs could see yet another early exit from the playoffs… just like last year… and the year before that… and most years.
