Kansas City Royals: All-Time Leaders in Runs Batted In
ROYALS ALL-TIME LEADERS IN RBI: NUMBER 16 – MIKE MACFARLANE (398)
ROYALS CATCHER FROM 1987-1994, 1996-1998
The Royals drafted Mike Macfarlane in the fourth round of the 1985 MLB Draft and the catcher out of Santa Clara University spent the next 13 years in the Royals organization. He got his major league call-up in 1987, but only played in eight games that year.
In 1988, Macfarlane was the first rookie catcher to start on Opening Day for the Royals since 1969. That paved the way for the guy to have a good career in Kansas City, as he’d finish his 11-year Royals tenure with a .257/.327/.439 slash line, 398 RBI, and 103 home runs.
Macfarlane initially left the Royals in 1995, but returned for another three seasons before being traded to Oakland midway in the 1998 season. He finished the next year and a half in Oakland and called it a career after the 1999 season.
Spending 11 years with the Royals helped get Mike Macfarlane so high on this list, but for over a decade, he handled catching duties and still holds the all-time record for games played as a catcher and for plate appearances by a catcher.
