Kansas City Royals: All-Time Leaders in Runs Batted In
ROYALS ALL-TIME LEADERS IN RBI: NUMBER 6 – ALEX GORDON (662)
ROYALS LEFT FIELDER FROM 2007-PRESENT
Alex Gordon was a stud during his playing days at Nebraska, so when the Kansas City Royals made him the second overall pick in the 2005 MLB Draft, it appeared “The Process” was in good hands.
Unfortunately, Gordon struggled at his drafted position of third base. His first ever plate appearance consisted of him striking out with the bases loaded on Opening Day in 2007. A lot of fans remember that moment to this day.
Gordon struggled so much, that he was eventually sent to the minor leagues in 2010 to learn a new position. When Gordon returned to the majors in 2011, he looked like a whole new man out there. After batting a measly .215 in 2010, Gordon batted .303 in 2011 and was an absolute rockstar in the outfield.
The former Nebraska Cornhusker became the player the Royals wanted him to be after that, making it to three All-Star games between 2013-2015. When the Royals made it to the postseason in both 2014 and 2015, Gordon was a key member of both appearances.
His biggest moment was easily his game-tying home run in Game 1 of the 2015 World Series. The fans went nuts that night at Kauffman Stadium and many thought that could be the last home run Gordon ever hit at the K as a Royal.
While Gordon re-signed with KC, he struggled in his first two years back. He did make some improvements in year three, but is nowhere near the guy the Royals thought they’d be getting when they brought him back on a massive four-year contract.
As of now, however, Alex Gordon is sixth all-time in RBIs. With just one year remaining on his contract, he’ll be locked into the number six spot for awhile more than likely.
