SPECIAL TEAMS

If you haven’t noticed a common trend yet, you are about to. That is that these two teams are so close in almost every category that it is almost funny. After nine weeks, Pro Footall Focus came out with their Special Teams rankings. Number one was the Chiefs. Number two? Yeah, you guessed it, the Rams.

The Chiefs boast one of the most explosive returners in Tyreek Hill, and perhaps the best coach in the business in Dave Toub. Toub’s name has been floated around in head coaching searches for a few years now, and I expect that to ring true this year as well.

The kickers have not been called on much for the Chiefs, but when they have, placekicker Harrison Butker has answered. He is 16 of 17 this year, with his only miss coming from over 50 yards. The Rams boast a kicker in Greg Zuerlein who is also among the leagues best. He is 14 of 16 this year, but has missed a few games due to injury.

The Rams have also been known to get tricky on Special Teams. When Johnny Hekker isn’t booming the ball for a 43 yard average, he is completing passes. He has completed ten passes for two touchdowns in his career, adding another wrinkle to John Fassel’s unit.

This match-up may be too close to call. Hill could take kick to the house at any moment, and the Rams could score likewise on some trickery. I’m going to take the easy way out, and let you guys decide who holds the edge here. For me, it is even.
