Kansas City Chiefs address defense often in early 2019 mock draft

Quick, can you name the backup running back under contract for next season? That’s likely difficult, as basically all running backs behind Kareem Hunt are going to be free agents. Spencer Ware and Damien Williams are not under contract past this season along with fullback Anthony Sherman.
Darrel Williams could be a potential backup, but he hasn’t touched the ball a single time on offense this season. He’s mainly been a special teams guy.
Jalin Moore has been a part of the emergence of the Appalachian State football program and runs in a similar style to a degree to current starter Kareem Hunt. Questions about his ability to be a pass catcher and pass blocker may limit how high he goes in the draft, but in terms of depth and backup, he could certainly fit the bill for affordable depth at the position.
There will be an interesting decision about what to do with Kareem Hunt. Do the Chiefs give the Toledo product a big contract when the time comes? The Chiefs can’t keep everyone, and as a running back, perhaps the Chiefs allow Hunt to walk and use the money elsewhere. That’s years down the road though.
