THREE THINGS TO WATCH VS MICHIGAN STATE

NUMBER 2 – BLACKSHIRTS CAN MAKE A STATEMENT

Michigan State has been as good as they’ve been because of their incredible defense. Their offense certainly has had its fair share of ups and downs and ranks near the bottom half in most offensive categories in the Big Ten.

The Spartans sit at second to last in scoring offense and total offense, only ahead of the lowly Rutgers Scarlet Knights. MSU’s rushing attack also is ranked second to last, with 1,100 less yards on the ground than Nebraska (who is fourth in the conference in running the ball).

The only offensive category that Michigan State isn’t at the bottom in is passing offense, where they’re right in the middle of the pack at number seven. Their pass offense was stifled against Ohio State, however, with the Spartan quarterbacks combining for just 220 yards through the air.

This is a game where the Nebraska defense could really prove themselves. The Spartans aren’t an offensive savvy team and the Blackshirts have been showing improvement. If they can shut MSU down in the way that both Michigan and Ohio State have been able to, we may have something here.
