WILY PERALTA

Wily Peralta was surprisingly effective for the Royals last year. The former Brewer was signed last offseason and didn’t get to Kansas City until mid June where he was put right to work in the Royals bullpen.

After Kelvin Herrera was traded to D.C., the Royals needed a closer and Peralta stepped into that role. He did well there too, recording 14 saves and finishing the year with a 3.67 ERA in 34.1 innings thrown.

Peralta has one year remaining on his contract, so if a team decides they need extra depth in the bullpen, Dayton Moore might be fielding some calls on Peralta. At the very least, Kansas City will probably deal him in the summer when the trade deadline approaches.

Relievers have become hot commodities in baseball, but closers in particular have grown quite popular. Teams probably won’t give up a ton for Peralta, but if the Royals can get a decent prospect back for him, they should take that deal.
