WHIT MERRIFIELD

The most talked about Royal this offseason will be none other than Whit Merrifield. There are many reasons Merrifield is an appealing trade candidate. He…

  1. Has yet to post a batting average lower than .283 in his pro career.
  2. Can play just about anywhere on the diamond.
  3. Is under club control through 2023
  4. On an affordable deal

For the Royals, trading Merrifield also makes sense. He’ll turn 30 years old in January and father time tends to be undefeated. We’ve said that about Merrifield the last few years, however, and he keeps raising his batting average.

While the Royals could certainly use Merrifield during their rebuild, if they can get a decent haul of prospects in exchange for Merrifield’s services, they need to pounce on that opportunity. It’d be tough since Royals fans have come to love Whitley, but baseball is a business, folks.
