DANNY DUFFY

When looking at the Kansas City Royals’ rotation moving forward, it appears mostly set. The number one option will probably be Danny Duffy next season, but that doesn’t mean he’s safe from the trade block.

Duffy, while not the Royals’ best starter a season ago (that would be Brad Keller), will still be the go-to guy in the rotation. That experience mixed in with his affordable contract and club control through 2022 make Duffy an attractive pitcher on the trade market.

Royals fans adore Duffy, but the fact of the matter is that he’s never lived up to the hype. Injuries, inconsistencies, and some off the diamond drama have made Duffy somewhat of a disappointment over the last few years. He had an ERA of 4.88 last season and threw just 155 innings.

Dufy’s problem has been that he is anything but an innings eater, failing to throw for over 200 innings in his career. The most innings he ever threw was 179.2 in 2016.

Teams might bite on Duffy because he’s a decent starting pitcher and would be a number three in most rotations. The affordable contract and long-term club control make Duffy a viable trade candidate.
